Conference for Student Leaders
This report on
the Conference of Edmund Rice School student leaders was written
by Samuel Develin, captain at St Edmund's College, Canberra.
A blistering Adelaide heat wave welcomed the
student leaders of over 30 schools from around Australia to Rostrevor
College for the annual Edmund Rice conference for student leaders,
during the January school holidays. The purpose of the conference
was to prepare the leaders of their respective Edmund Rice Schools
for the year ahead through numerous lectures, workshops, forums
and time spent conversing with one another on relevant school and
leadership issues. Each student leader had the opportunity to share
with the group the history of their school and the characteristics
of their respective schools that made them a unique Edmund Rice
school. This was a valuable experience as it showcased the diverse
nature of each and every school whilst highlighting the uniqueness
of the Edmund Rice nature and willingness to give to the community.
The former Parade College Captain, Paul Daly, also provided extremely
valuable insight into the demands of leadership and life as a year
twelve student.
The conference concluded with a final dinner and talk frorm guest
speaker Tim Davis, at the spectacular Rostrevor house. The experience
was extremely helpful in preparing me for the year ahead as Captain
of St Edmunds College Canberra whilst the friendships forged with
other Christian Brothers School leaders will be something that I
will cherish.
